Client quotes and testimonials : Marian Moriarty Coaching, personal & executive coaching

A very capable executive in a big company. Webster had recently been promoted into a very senior and high profile job.
Despite having all the qualifications, experience and potential necessary he found that the extra, high level, exposure, the requirement for quick, flexible thinking and the need to be able to carry people with him was overwhelming.
He was radically underperforming. From a position where his career was accelerating upwards he was now in danger of being fired. Truly he was drinking in the last chance saloon.
A colleague suggested that he approach us.
We went to meet him to find out if we could help him and to let him discover that he wanted to work with us. We worked with him over a series of sessions to help him to regain his lost confidence. We passed on some extra tools and techniques that would enable him to tap into hidden resources so that he could do all of the new things required of him - at a very high level.
He flew like a bird. Webster’s career is back on track

(rebuilding strong foundations)

John was a man who had become deeply dissatisfied with his, very successful, career. He was in desperate need of a change but didn’t know how to find a way forward. We worked with John in a series of one-to-one coaching sessions over a period of a few months. We had three sessions in all, they were followed up by a number of telephone conversations to stay in touch and to provide help and encouragement.
We started by doing some exploration to discover what he REALLY wanted to do and from there to give him a way to explore possibilities and make plans. It became clear that part of John’s problem was his lack of confidence in his ability to embark on a new career in a completely different field. This is an issue which many of us might recognise :
“I’ve been doing this all my life, I can’t do anything else...”
We did some work to help John to become fully aware of his capabilities and to make some detailed plans for changing his like which he could evaluate. He was then in a good position to make a decision about what to do.
Having decided we worked on building the resolve to carry it through.
T he outcome was that John set up a successful business in an entirely new field. He regained his enthusiasm and general joie-de-vive. He also discovered the spin off benefits of being his own boss and the flexibility which that gave him so his overall quality of life improved.

(finding a new career)

Working for one of the big high street retailers Cliff had been hovering at just below board level for some time. It was believed that he could have director potential but before he could be considered he needed to meet a complex set of criteria.
Unfortunately, despite performing quite brilliantly in most fields, he was consistently let down by his performance in the areas of :
- imagination / creativity, his ability to come up with original thinking and ideas
- a tendency to jump to premature conclusions
- a need to be more flexible and to allow others to perform in their own way
We undertook some coaching sessions where we explored his personal motivations. We were able to help him to understand the key drivers which were limiting his performance.
From there we could give him a way to change them.
We helped him to build motivation and resolve.
And gave him some additional tools to get results, particularly in creative thinking.
He was able to report back that he’d gone back into the office and come up with an idea for dealing with a new problem that he :
“....never would have in a thousand years.”
Which really surprised his colleagues. He told us “ I wish I’d done this years ago.”
